Heavy rain forecast across state for next five days

The state is set to experience varying intensities of rainfall till October 18, with different regions facing heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and occasional light showers. The state’s coastal and interior districts will be affected, with meteorological warnings issued to prepare for potential impacts.

Coastal Karnataka will see isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms, particularly in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, while Uttara Kannada will experience lighter, more widespread rain. South Interior Karnataka is likely to be hit by heavy to very heavy rain in areas such as Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Mandya, and Mysuru. In North Interior Karnataka, light to moderate rainfall is expected.

The forecast for October 16 indicates that coastal Karnataka will continue to experience isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms. North Interior Karnataka will see similar conditions, with heavy showers predicted in Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri. In South Interior Karnataka, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated across Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru and Ramanagara while the rest of the region will have lighter rain.

October 17 brings a significant escalation in rainfall for the state, with scattered heavy to very heavy rain expected in coastal Karnataka. South Interior Karnataka will also be affected, with places like Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkamagaluru, Kolar, Kodagu, Ramanagara, Shivamogga and Tumakuru facing intense downpours. North Interior Karnataka will see isolated heavy rain in Belagavi, Dharwad, and Haveri.

By October 18, the intensity of the rain is expected to reduce. Coastal Karnataka will experience light to moderate rain at many locations, while light to moderate showers are anticipated in various parts of Interior Karnataka.

Residents are advised to prepare for potential disruptions such as temporary power outages, minor traffic snarls, and possible damage to unsecured structures or weak tree branches. Authorities suggest staying indoors when possible, securing windows and doors, unplugging electrical devices, and avoiding proximity to water bodies or objects that can conduct electricity.
