Sanjay Raut, a leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), raised concerns about the integrity of the upcoming Maharashtra elections, which are scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. After the Election Commission’s announcement, Raut urged the body to ensure that the elections do not mirror those in Haryana. He emphasized the need for impartiality, expressing his worries about the potential misuse of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and postal ballots.
Raut stated, ‘We appeal to the Election Commission not to let the Maharashtra election become like the Haryana election. There are worries about the misuse of EVMs and postal ballots, and financial influence could be a factor. If the EC sees itself as unbiased, though we do not, then it must address these concerns, as EVMs are not foolproof.
Despite these concerns, Raut expressed confidence in the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, predicting a change in government. He asserted that the unconstitutional government formed with support from PM Modi and others will be removed. This election is not just about numbers; it is about winning individual seats, he said.
Earlier this month, leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition met to discuss seat-sharing arrangements, and decisions on various seats are expected to be announced before Dussehra. The election will see a contest between the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the Maha Yuti Alliance, which includes BJP and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction.
