India’s Swachhata Special Campaign has achieved remarkable success in promoting cleanliness and sustainability in workplaces. As of October 14, 2024, Indian Missions and Posts abroad have conducted 426 cleanliness drives, successfully eliminating over 334,000 unnecessary files.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted its commitment to this initiative, stating that Special Campaign 4.0 aims to institutionalize cleanliness and reduce pending tasks in government offices. Running from October 2 to 31, 2024, the campaign emphasizes improving workplace hygiene, encouraging sustainable practices, and optimizing the management of pending matters.

In a statement, the MEA mentioned that Indian Missions and Posts, along with MEA Headquarters and subordinate offices, are focusing on clearing backlogs, including references from Members of Parliament (MPs), the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), and state governments. To date, they have addressed 14 PMO references, 53 state government references, and 70 MP references.

This initiative has also freed up approximately 18,426 square feet of space. The MEA has effectively resolved 450 public grievances and 89 appeals, reflecting its dedication to enhancing cleanliness and governance efficiency through Special Campaign 4.0, which was launched by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG).
