A clash erupted between two groups in Solapur village, Belgavi District, on Sunday night following the alleged desecration of a Durga Devi idol. The disturbance began when the idol was taken for immersion, leading to violent confrontations that resulted in injuries to three individuals and damage to two motorcycles and a car.
To restore order, police intervened with a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Enhanced security measures were quickly implemented to prevent further unrest, including route marches by law enforcement in the area.
Superintendent of Police Bheema Shankar Guled stated, the conflict started between Amita Naika and Firoz. As more people gathered, police used batons to control the situation. We’ve deployed additional personnel, including two KSRPs, to maintain peace. The incident was reported at the Sankeshwar police station, and officials confirmed that the situation is currently under control.
In a related incident, violent clashes during Durga idol immersion were also reported in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. Following protests in the Mahasi area, police detained 30 individuals and launched a search for the main suspects after demonstrators vandalized local shops. Security has been heightened in Bahraich to prevent further violence.
