Elon Musk’s X platform faced restrictions in Brazil due to a conflict over misinformation. However, the Brazilian Supreme Court has now lifted these restrictions, as reported by source on Wednesday. Judge Alexandre de Moraes stated, I authorize the immediate return of the activities of X, following the company’s payment of millions in fines for not adhering to court orders.
Judge de Moraes also instructed the Brazilian communications authority to restore access to the platform within 24 hours. Despite this ruling, Elon Musk, known for his strong stance on free speech, has not yet commented on the decision.
Previously, De Moraes banned X after Musk ignored orders to remove accounts spreading false information and failed to meet a deadline for appointing a legal representative in Brazil. Musk has referred to De Moraes as an evil dictator and expressed support for Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s former right-wing president, who has faced criticism for spreading misinformation during the 2022 elections.
Bolsonaro’s supporters later stormed the legislature on January 8, 2023, demanding a military coup after his electoral defeat. He is currently barred from holding public office until 2030, amid ongoing tensions between him and Justice de Moraes over various investigations.
