Vijayapura
Housing and Minorities Welfare Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan stated that Waqf Board properties are donations from philanthropists meant for community benefit. He emphasized that these properties were not acquired from the government, but rather, government institutions have encroached upon them. According to Khan, the government has not allocated land to the Waqf Board, except for cemeteries.
In response to BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal’s claims regarding land ownership in Vijayapura, Khan asserted that Waqf property belongs to the community, not to individuals. He announced plans to clear encroachments on Waqf property for educational and healthcare purposes and mentioned that Waqf Adalats will be held in every district to address these issues.
In Vijayapura, 338 applications have been received, which include 17 cases of encroachment, 81 regarding land ownership, 77 related to cemeteries, and 25 concerning surveys. These matters will be discussed in an upcoming meeting with officials.
Khan also pointed out that significant Waqf property has been encroached upon in the district and stated that steps will be taken to remove these encroachments. He stressed that the responsibility of protecting Waqf property lies with everyone.
