New Delhi
On Wednesday, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi honored Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary by visiting the renowned Khadi Bhandar in New Delhi. He emphasized Gandhi’s vision of promoting Khadi as a means of generating employment and fostering self-reliance, urging Indians to embrace this path. We should promote Khadi as much as possible. That’s why we are here today, with ministers purchasing Khadi to encourage others to buy more. Our presence at Khadi Bhandar is meant to boost Khadi sales, stated Manjhi.
Recent figures show that the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) achieved an impressive 15.7 percent increase in sales, surpassing ₹1.55 lakh crore in July and creating over 10.17 lakh new jobs in rural areas during the 2023-24 financial year.
Manjhi also spoke about the broader concept of cleanliness, stating, Cleanliness isn’t just about keeping streets clean or wearing tidy clothes; it also involves maintaining a healthy mind and heart. Doing good for others and causing no harm can strengthen our brotherhood and help India progress.
Regarding the ongoing flood crisis in Bihar, he expressed concern over the severe situation due to significant water release from Nepal. He assured that the government is actively working to manage the situation and provide relief to those affected, expressing hope for a swift resolution.
