Chennai
On Wednesday, the Greater Chennai Police arrested five individuals for allegedly selling drugs near the Koyambedu market. The arrested suspects were said to have distributed narcotic pills to college students and young people in Chennai and its suburbs.
During the operation, police recovered 49 narcotic pills, ₹17,400 in cash, a button knife, a machete, a weighing machine, five mobile phones, and a high-end motorcycle from the suspects. The police acted on a tip-off and arrested Mohandas, a 24-year-old salon worker. During questioning, he revealed the names of his four accomplices.
Sub Inspector Yuvraj led the team that arrested Vijay and three students—Ganapathi, Santhosh, and Lokesh. The group reportedly sourced drugs in bulk from Mumbai and sold them in smaller amounts locally. They also traveled to Andhra Pradesh to obtain ganja for sale. The Greater Chennai Police are determined to target organized drug syndicates to keep the city narcotics-free.
