Badlapur rape suspect’s family seeks burial rights in HC

Mumbai

The family of Akshay Shinde, who was accused in the Badlapur rape case and killed in a police encounter, has approached the Bombay High Court again. They are seeking permission to find a burial site for Shinde, as they have struggled to locate land for his grave since his death. Initially, they tried to secure a burial site in Badlapur, then turned to Ambarnath but were unsuccessful there too. Their lawyer, Amit Katarnavare, told the court that Shinde’s father, Anna, found a potential burial location in Ambarnath.

However, when he visited, the officer denied him permission, leaving him searching all day without resolution. In response, the court directed the public prosecutor to maintain law and order in the area and confirmed that police officers were stationed outside Shinde’s home to prevent any disturbances. The court is currently reviewing the family’s petition regarding Shinde’s burial rights.
