Vadodara
In Vadodara, Gujarat, small traders impacted by recent floods have received a total of Rs 5.25 crore in direct financial aid from the state government. This support comes from a special relief package announced by CM Bhupendra Patel, with funds transferred directly into the traders’ bank accounts.
Municipal Commissioner Dilip Rana and Collector Bijal Shah mobilized 200 surveyors to assess the damage and accelerate relief efforts. Despite many shops being closed for the weekend and festival, the surveyors worked diligently.
So far, 3,555 traders have been assisted, with Rs 1.19 crore going to 2,370 handcart vendors, Rs 80.60 lakh to 403 small cabin traders, Rs 3 crore to 752 large cabin traders, and Rs 25.50 lakh to 30 permanent shop owners. The state government has allocated Rs 25 crore for this relief initiative.
Additionally, the Gujarat government has formed a five-member committee, led by B.N. Navalawala, to investigate the flood causes and suggest measures to prevent future flooding. The committee will review the Ajwa Reservoir, Pratappura Sarovar, Vishwamitri River, and their catchment areas to improve flood management.
