Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has been awarded a contract by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) to develop a 400 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid project in Maharashtra. The company announced that it secured the Letter of Award (LoA) for the project.
The project will have an initial capacity of 200 MW, with an option to expand by another 200 MW. It is the largest renewable energy project for TPREL in the state. This development is part of MSEDCL’s strategy to meet Maharashtra’s Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) and future energy needs through competitive tariffs.
The contract was awarded after a competitive bidding process conducted through an online reverse auction. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months after the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between TPREL and MSEDCL. Once operational, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 895 million kilograms annually.
The energy generated from the Wind-Solar Hybrid project will be supplied to MSEDCL, helping meet its energy demands. The project will also make use of local land resources to support regional development.
With this project, Tata Power Renewable Energy’s total renewable capacity has reached 10.5 GW, including 5.7 GW of projects under development. The company’s current operational capacity is 4.8 GW, with 3.8 GW from solar and 1 GW from wind projects.
