Australia captain Alyssa Healy has announced that the team will focus on maintaining a consistent playing XI for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, which kicks off on Thursday at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay. This series marks the start of Australia’s preparations for their quest to win a record fourth consecutive Women’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in the UAE from October 3-20.
Healy emphasized that instead of experimenting with the lineup, the team aims to solidify their squad, as they did during their recent tour of Bangladesh, where they won the T20I series 3-0. Consistency is key as we head into the World Cup. While we will use all 15 players during the tournament, having a clear understanding of each player’s role is crucial, Healy said.
Regarding the challenge from New Zealand, who are also in Group A of the World Cup, Healy acknowledged their past competitive encounters and expressed excitement about playing them again. She also hinted at the possibility of fielding both pacers Tayla Vlaeminck and Darcie Brown together, noting it would create selection challenges but also provide valuable options. Having both Tayla and Darcie available is exciting and gives us strategic flexibility, Healy added.
