Daniele De Rossi has been dismissed as Roma’s head coach just eight months into his tenure and after only four Serie A matches this season. Initially appointed on an interim basis following José Mourinho’s departure in January, De Rossi earned a three-year contract in June due to his successful end to the previous season. Under his guidance, Roma finished sixth in Serie A and reached the Europa League semifinals.

However, the 41-year-old struggled to secure victories this season, with three draws and a home loss to Empoli. As a result, Roma decided to part ways with him to realign their season’s trajectory.

AS Roma announces that Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach. This decision is made with the team’s best interests in mind to regain the desired performance early in the season, the club said in a statement. They expressed gratitude for De Rossi’s dedication and passion, acknowledging his deep connection to the club.

De Rossi, a Roma legend who made over 600 appearances for the team and won the Coppa Italia twice, saw his last match as manager end in a 1-1 draw against Genoa, where he was also shown a red card. Roma’s next challenge is their Europa League opener against Athletic Bilbao.
