Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Monday that over 1.3 crore families have registered for the PM Solar Rooftop Scheme since its launch. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024 in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district.

It was stated that installation work has been completed for 3.75 lakh homes under the scheme. The scheme, aimed at generating solar energy on rooftops, has been seen as a source of additional income for families.

According to PM Modi, families benefit by generating electricity for personal use and selling surplus electricity to the grid. He added that a family consuming 250 units per month and selling 100 units to the grid would save approximately ₹25,000 annually.

The prime minister highlighted the potential of the scheme in creating green jobs. Thousands of vendors will be needed, and around 20 lakh employment opportunities are expected to be created through this initiative.

The scheme aims to turn households across India into power producers. The event, hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, is expected to attract over 10,000 participants, including key figures from government, industry, and financial sectors. Several Chief Ministers were also present at the event.
