Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has defended PM Modi’s visit to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s home for Ganesh Puja, calling the controversy surrounding it unfounded. Fadnavis pointed out that previous Prime Ministers have hosted Iftar parties, which were attended by the Chief Justice, highlighting that Modi’s visit is similar and not unusual.

Fadnavis shared an old news article featuring former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hosting an Iftar party attended by then-Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and other leaders. He explained that Ganeshotsav is widely celebrated, and it is customary for prominent figures, including the Chief Justice, to participate in such festivities.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit was for Ganapati Puja, a tradition that is celebrated with zeal across India, Fadnavis noted in a social media post. There’s no reason for uproar. Earlier, Prime Ministers hosted Iftar parties with the Chief Justice present. Now, Modi joined the Chief Justice for Ganapati Puja.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has raised concerns about the Chief Justice’s impartiality due to the visit. He questioned whether such interactions might affect the fairness of ongoing judicial reviews, particularly regarding Maharashtra’s political disputes.

Ganesh Chaturthi, a major festival lasting ten days, continues with celebrations honoring Lord Ganesha, symbolizing new beginnings and removing obstacles.
