Bhubaneswar
Heavy rain has hit several districts in Odisha, affecting thousands and leading to the evacuation of around 1,700 people. State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari reported that the flood situation is under control with no casualties from the rain or landslides, though one person was injured in a landslide.
Following a review in Bhubaneswar, Pujari noted that all 30 districts experienced rain, with Malkangiri seeing the highest levels. The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has been deployed in 12 districts, and 80 boats were used for rescue efforts. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is on standby, and the Union Home Ministry has provided additional support, including two choppers.
About 1,700 to 1,800 evacuees are being accommodated in relief camps, and officials are monitoring the situation closely. The government plans to compensate those affected once damage assessments are complete. Communication in some areas, including Malkangiri and Koraput, remains disrupted. The deep depression over North Chhattisgarh and Odisha is expected to weaken as it moves west-northwest.
