Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser made a remarkable impression at the Ivan Ivancic Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event, by breaking the meeting record twice and achieving a season-best throw of 22.93 meters. This performance came just weeks after Crouser secured an unprecedented third consecutive Olympic gold in Paris. He initially matched his Olympic-winning mark of 22.90 meters and then surpassed it with a 22.93-meter throw in the final round, clinching victory in Zagreb.
American competitor Payton Otterdahl followed in second place with a personal outdoor best of 22.46 meters. Jamaican Olympic bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell set a new national record with a throw of 22.31 meters to finish third, while Italy’s world silver medallist Leonardo Fabbri took fourth with a throw of 22.24 meters.
Crouser expressed his excitement about the competition, noting the outstanding atmosphere and energy in Zagreb. ‘It was a fantastic competition, and the performance level was incredibly high. A 22.24-meter throw didn’t even make the podium, which shows how exceptional the event was,’ he said.
Despite ongoing injury issues this year, Crouser has continued to excel, also winning at the Diamond League meetings in Rome and Zurich and finishing second in Silesia.
