External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Italy’s Ambassador to India, Antonio Bartoli, to discuss the growing India-Italy Strategic Partnership. The meeting, held in New Delhi on Wednesday, focused on deepening cooperation between the two countries in key areas such as peace, growth, technology, and security.
Ambassador Bartoli, who began his tenure earlier this year, expressed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, emphasizing Italy and India as natural partners for cultural exchange, innovation, and trade. He highlighted his priorities, including advancements in science, energy, digital transition, and industrial collaboration.
Recent months have seen significant progress in India-Italy relations. In October, the two nations held historic maritime exercises, marking the first-ever Carrier Strike Group collaboration between their navies. Additionally, the Italian ambassador met with Indian Minister Piyush Goyal to discuss expanding trade in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and agriculture.
Both India and Italy share a rich cultural history, and their diplomatic relations date back to 1947. Last year, they celebrated 75 years of diplomatic ties. During the recent G20 summit, Italy joined the India-Middle East Economic Corridor (IMEC), further enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Jaishankar also took to social media to wish Ambassador Bartoli success in his diplomatic mission, signaling continued efforts to build stronger ties between the two nations.
