Shimla
Himachal Pradesh is facing a severe financial crisis, leading to an unprecedented situation where government employees have not received their salaries by the 3rd of the month. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu initially acknowledged the crisis by announcing a two-month salary deferment for himself, ministers, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, and MLAs. However, he later contradicted himself by denying the existence of a financial crisis.
Opposition Leader Jairam Thakur criticized the government’s handling of the situation, accusing Congress of failing to meet promises made by Rahul Gandhi. Thakur pointed out the inconsistency in the Chief Minister’s statements, questioning why salaries remain unpaid if there is no crisis. He also noted that the opposition’s request for a discussion on the financial situation in the House was ignored, suggesting that the issue is not being treated seriously by the government.
In response to the crisis, the opposition has submitted a memorandum to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, calling for his intervention. Thakur promised that the BJP would highlight the Congress’s false guarantees in upcoming state elections. Additionally, he commented on a mosque construction controversy in Shimla, asserting that if the mosque was built illegally, it should be demolished. The crisis and political discord have intensified the situation in Himachal Pradesh, setting the stage for a heated political battle.
