Frances Tiafoe advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open with a 6-4, 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3 victory over Alexei Popyrin. This marks Tiafoe’s third consecutive quarterfinal appearance at the event. He will next face ninth-seed Grigor Dimitrov.

Reflecting on his journey, Tiafoe shared his childhood dream of playing on the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium court. I always dreamed of playing here. As a kid, I practiced by hitting against walls and watched the Williams sisters and Roger Federer win titles here. It’s so special to be part of this, he said.

Since a challenging start to the season, Tiafoe has surged with nine wins in his last 10 matches, including a strong performance in Cincinnati and the US Open. Popyrin, who had led the second set 5-2 and missed three set points, struggled with double faults and inconsistency.

In other news, Alexander Zverev secured his quarterfinal spot with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 win over Brandon Nakashima. This victory not only advances Zverev to the quarterfinals but also qualifies him for the ATP Finals for the seventh time. I started defensively, but stepped up my game to win. I’m happy to be back in the quarters, Zverev said. His next opponent will be Taylor Fritz, with Zverev aiming for his second title of the season.
