Manchester United have announced the signing of Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain on a contract that extends to June 2029, with an option to extend for another year. The initial fee is £42 million, potentially rising to £50.7 million with performance-related add-ons, according to sources.

Ugarte, a key target for Manchester United to strengthen their midfield, arrives to fill the gap left by Scott McTominay’s move to Napoli. The 23-year-old midfielder helped PSG win the league and cup double last season and was a standout performer in the Copa America, earning a spot in the tournament’s team of the year. He has 22 caps for Uruguay.

Upon joining, Ugarte expressed his excitement about the move, saying, ‘Joining a club of this magnitude is incredible. The project discussed with me is very exciting. Manchester United is ambitious, and I am too. I am eager to experience Old Trafford and am committed to giving my all to win trophies with my new teammates’.

Dan Ashworth, Manchester United’s sporting director, praised Ugarte’s abilities, noting, Manuel was a primary target for us. He is one of the best ball-winning midfielders globally and will be a valuable addition to our squad. We are excited about the positive impact he will bring, he said.
