At the US Open 2024, India’s Yuki Bhambri and N Sriram Balaji advanced in the men’s doubles matches. Yuki Bhambri, teamed with France’s Albano Olivetti, secured a straight-sets victory, while Balaji, paired with Argentina’s Guido Andreozzi, triumphed in a tougher match to reach the round of 32.
Bhambri and Olivetti defeated American wildcards Patrik Trhac and Ryan Seggerman 6-3, 6-4 in just 77 minutes. The Indo-French duo gained an early break in the fourth game and maintained their lead to take the first set 6-3. They carried their momentum into the second set, securing another early break and holding all service games to win.
Balaji and Andreozzi faced a tougher challenge, overcoming New Zealand’s Marcus Daniell and Mexico’s Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(10) in a two-hour and 36-minute battle. After losing the first set 7-5, Balaji and Andreozzi made a strong comeback, breaking their opponents’ serves twice to win the second set 6-1. The final set saw both teams battling fiercely, with Balaji and Andreozzi eventually winning a tense tie-break 12-10 to advance.
Rohan Bopanna, another Indian player, will compete in men’s doubles with Australian Matthew Ebden, facing Robin Haase and Sander Arends from the Netherlands in the first round. Bopanna is also set to play in the mixed doubles with Aldila Sutjiadi of Indonesia. Sumit Nagal, initially scheduled to compete, withdrew after his partner Yoshihito Nishioka pulled out due to medical reasons.
