External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren for the India-Chile Joint Commission meeting and emphasized the importance of their discussions. Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Chile’s involvement in the Voice of Global South Summits and commended Chilean President Gabriel Boric for his insightful speech at the third summit held on August 17.
Recalling their previous virtual meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jaishankar expressed pleasure at finally meeting in person. He stated, it’s a great pleasure to have you here for our second India-Chile Joint Commission meeting. The first one was held virtually a few years ago, so it’s wonderful to connect face-to-face now.
Jaishankar also acknowledged Chile’s support for India’s bid for a permanent seat on an expanded Security Council and praised Chile’s participation in the upcoming Trade and Economic Ministers meeting in November 2023.
Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren, who arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday, was warmly welcomed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. Jaiswal noted on X, FM Alberto Klaveren’s visit to New Delhi marks the second India-Chile Joint Commission Meeting, providing a key opportunity to enhance our bilateral cooperation.
After the Joint Commission meeting and the Chile-India Business (Agriculture) Summit, van Klaveren will travel to Mumbai. The MEA highlighted that Chile is a significant partner for India in Latin America, and this visit aims to review and strengthen their bilateral ties.
