The government has confirmed that the Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) Preliminary Exam will not be postponed and will be held on August 27 as planned. Despite protests from some candidates, the government asserts that there is no basis for claims of a scam or misconduct regarding the exam.
The announcement follows recent controversies and demands from KAS aspirants for a postponement. The government has issued a media release addressing these concerns, stating that candidates have been given ample time to prepare and that the examination will not be rushed.
The KAS exam was initially scheduled for May 5 but was postponed due to the Lok Sabha election polling on May 7. The exam was rescheduled to July 7 but was again moved to July 21 due to a conflict with the UPSC exam. A notification was issued on June 21 allowing candidates from the 2017-18 batch another chance to sit for the exam with an extended age limit. Approximately 1,560 candidates from that batch reapplied by the July 21 deadline.
The government clarified that the exam’s postponement to August 25 was necessary due to a conflict with the IBPS exam, which also falls on August 25. Consequently, the KAS exam will now be held on August 27.
Officials have emphasized that any claims of the exam being conducted in haste are unfounded. The decision to schedule the exam on a working day rather than a Sunday was made to accommodate other exams and logistical constraints. The government also noted the high costs associated with rescheduling and the risk of paper leakage, which further justifies the exam’s scheduled date.
