Demand to take emergency measures in Western Ghats

Jai Karnataka Parishad activists staged a protest demanding that emergency measures be taken in the Western Ghats region of the state in the wake of the disaster in Wayanad, Kerala.
In front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office of the city, they expressed support for the struggle of the organization of environmental activists, We are For Environment, for the survival of the Western Ghat region and sent a letter of appeal to the Chief Minister through the district administration and demanded for the survival of the Western Ghat region.
Disasters are happening in the Western Ghats due to neglecting the Prof Madhav Gadgil Committee report and the state government needs to take urgent action. To remove the misconceptions of the people about the Madhav Gadgil report, the report should be translated into Kannada and delivered to every panchayat, discussed with the local people and the implementation of the report should be initiated, the environmentally unfriendly economic activities going on in the environmentally sensitive area should be implemented within a time frame for the dependents of an alternative livelihood plan, along the coastal controlled zone model, identify the river bed controlled zone for the rivers of the Western Ghats. He demanded that the opposition activity should be restricted.
Small project in sensitive sector should not be done without EIA, without approval of environmental expert committee, without gathering opinion of public. Urgently demanded that green cover should be developed in the area.
State president of the organization Dr S Narayan, K Basavaraju, KR Prasad. KB Kempegowda, Puttaswamy, Lalitha Rajkumar, MP Mamata Murthy and other leaders were present.
