A key meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) national office-bearers is currently being held at the party headquarters in Delhi. BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda is leading the meeting, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in attendance.

The meeting includes all national office-bearers, state in-charges, co-in-charges, state BJP presidents, and organizational general secretaries. The main agenda is to discuss the upcoming membership drive, including its start date and detailed process.

The meeting also focuses on finalizing the procedures for the BJP’s membership drive and organizational elections. Following these elections, which will take place at various levels from Mandal to state, the election for a new national president is expected to occur in January 2025.

Current President JP Nadda’s term has expired, but he will continue in the role until a new president is elected. According to Article 19 of the BJP’s constitution, the national president is chosen by an electoral college made up of National and State Council members. The election process involves a series of stages from district to state levels and is governed by rules established by the National Executive.

Candidates for the presidency must have been active members for at least four terms and primary members for at least 15 years. They must be nominated by a joint proposal from at least 20 electoral college members across at least five states, with the candidate’s consent required. The party typically conducts a nationwide membership drive before these elections, which spans about 5-6 months.
