The district administration has been engaged in evacuating families affected by floods in several taluks of the district. The evacuated families are being shifted to care centres. The decrease in rainfall in the Maharashtra region and the catchment area of rivers has brought a little solace to the administration.
Due to incessant rains, flood water gushed into many villages along the Krishna, Doodhganga, Vedaganga Ghataprabha, Malaprabha and Hiranyakeshi rivers. The work of evacuating the people of many villages gained momentum.
Smaller bridges over the tributaries of the Krishna have also been flooded and people are rushing to safe places with their belongings. Masaguppi Bridge in Mudalagi taluk was flooded and more than 250 houses in the village were flooded. More than 600 people were sent to the care centre.
As the old town of Hunshyal P.Y village was flooded, a care centre for affected families was started at the government Senior Primary School of the village. Of the 60 families in the village, 30 have been arranged in a care centre.
According to the district administration, more than 800 members of 300 families from 40 flood-affected villages on the banks of Krishna and its tributaries have been rescued and arrangements have been made in more than 40 care centres.
The level of inflow of the Malaprabha River is increasing substantially. Savadatti taluk administration has instructed the villages downstream of the reservoir including Munavalli, Teggihal and Ramdurg to be alert.
Due to flooding, many temples on the banks of the river have been submerged. The famous Veerbhadreshwara temple, a subsidiary of Shrishail Peetha in Yadur was submerged in Krishna River. The Holemma Devi temple at Badakundri village in Hukkeri taluk and Jade Siddheshwarmath in Sundholi were submerged in Ghataprabha River.
