On Thursday, police in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, arrested two over-ground workers (OGWs) of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) and took legal action against four others for their involvement in supporting terrorist activities. The arrests were made at the Malhar police station.
According to a police statement, in a major breakthrough in our fight against terrorism, Kathua Police have detained two OGWs involved in terror-related activities. These individuals were found to have deliberately withheld crucial information from the police, which obstructed efforts to prevent terrorist actions.
The two arrested OGWs are identified as Layaqat Ali alias Puwa from Kalna Dhanu Parole and Mool Raj alias Jenju from Bowli Mohalla Malhar, both in Kathua district. They are accused of providing strategic and logistical support to terrorists involved in the Kathua terror attack on July 10, which resulted in the deaths of five security personnel, including four soldiers and a local policeman.
The police have questioned over 100 people and taken preventive measures against more than 40 to disrupt potential support systems for terrorism. A case has been registered under FIR No. 18/2024 at PS Malhar, with further investigations ongoing.
Officials have reported the presence of around 40 foreign terrorists in the hilly districts of Jammu division, including Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kathua, Reasi, and Udhampur. In response, the Army has deployed over 4,000 soldiers, including elite para commandos trained in mountain warfare, to combat terrorism in the region.
