In a meeting held on Wednesday at the district collector’s office, measures were discussed regarding potential floods due to heavy rain. District Collector Mohammad Roshan instructed that 427 care centers be visited by all tehsildars to assess preparations. Villagers should be relocated to safe places promptly in case of emergencies. It was directed that boats remain in a state of readiness at all times, with plans to purchase five additional boats. Fire brigade personnel will receive training on their use, and search lights will be provided for rescue operations.

The monitoring of riverside villages like Mangavati, Jugula, and others prone to flooding was emphasized. Roads damaged by rain were also highlighted for repair by tehsildars. Regarding water management, it was announced that 2 lakh cusecs of water will be released from Alamatty Reservoir, necessitating precautionary measures across affected areas. Safety measures were urged at submerged footbridges, with attention to alternative routes and clearance of potential landslide areas near national highway works.

Efforts were also directed towards clearing drains in Belgaum city and ensuring adequate food stocks in local facilities like Anganwadis and schools. Authorities were instructed to monitor flood situations closely, including potential risks from crocodiles in affected areas. Officials from various departments attended the meeting, including the Superintendent of Police and other district-level officials, with remote participation from taluk tahsildars via video conference.
