Container ship catches fire mid-seam operation by helicopter

A significant fire erupted aboard a container-carrying ship in the middle of the sea, approximately 50 nautical miles from Karwar. Rescue operations are currently underway with assistance from helicopters and other ships.
The vessel, MV Maersk Frankfurt, departed Malaysia on July 2 with a scheduled destination of Sri Lanka today. However, a fire unexpectedly broke out onboard, engulfing numerous containers.
Information regarding the incident has been relayed to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Mumbai. The Indian Coast Guard’s Dornier aircraft, along with ships named Sachet, Sujeet, and Samrat, as well as an advanced light helicopter, have been involved in firefighting and rescue efforts.
The Indian Coast Guard reported on social media that Coast Guard vessels Sujeet, Sachet, and Samrat have been engaged in the firefighting operation for 12 hours. They are striving to control the fire.
The ship was located 6.5 nautical miles south of Karwar when the incident occurred. A Dornier aircraft from the Goa Coast Guard is conducting aerial surveillance following the fire. An additional search and rescue aircraft has been dispatched from Kochi, as explained by the Coast Guard.
