This year, the coastal regions of Malenadu have experienced unusually heavy rainfall, leading to floods affecting multiple districts. Minister Krishna Byre Gowda urged officials to actively engage in fieldwork and assured the public of government support.
In a video conference held at Vikasa Soudha, Gowda convened with Deputy Commissioners, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officers, and senior officials from Irrigation, Energy Department, and National Highway Authority in flood-affected districts like Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Mangalore, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Belagavi, and Davanagere. He provided directives and set timelines for flood relief efforts.
During the meeting, Gowda reminded officials of earlier warnings issued in January about anticipated heavy rainfall this year. He stressed the need to identify flood-prone villages and implement necessary precautions. Acknowledging the current challenges faced by residents due to flooding, he emphasized the importance of officials being proactive and visible in the field to bolster public confidence in government support.
Gowda highlighted the critical issue of rural road connectivity disrupted by floods. He instructed officials to promptly assess and initiate repairs as soon as weather conditions permit. Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officers were tasked with overseeing these responsibilities diligently. Additionally, officials were cautioned to swiftly address any power outages to minimize inconvenience to residents.
