Udupi

Moderate to heavy rains were experienced in both coastal districts, with isolated instances of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall observed throughout the day. Despite a reduction in rain intensity, Kundapur and Brahmavar in Udupi district continued to face flooding caused by a swollen Sitanadi river. Significant areas in Haladi and Molahalli of Kundapur taluk were submerged under water. Reports indicated several houses in Brahmavar taluk were damaged due to falling trees.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Arala in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada received 180mm of rainfall, while the district overall recorded 54mm in the past 24 hours, slightly above the normal average of 46mm. Belthangady taluk received 70mm of rainfall during this period.

Due to increased inflow, water levels in the Nethravathi River were rising, prompting concerns about potential flooding in low-lying areas of the city. The Rain Monitoring Cell at the Deputy Commissioner’s office reported an average rainfall of 95mm across the district. Hebri received 135mm of rainfall, Kundapur taluk recorded 108mm, Karkala taluk had 88mm, Udupi received 72mm, Byndoor saw 83mm, Brahmavara had 88mm, and Kaup reported 49mm of rainfall.

The situation remains monitored closely as authorities work to manage the aftermath of heavy rains, particularly focusing on flood-prone areas and ensuring public safety.
