Although the water level in rivers is constantly increasing, there is no immediate threat of flood in the district, said Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan. However, he mentioned that all necessary precautionary measures have been taken to tackle any possible flood situation. He was speaking to media persons after inspecting the water levels of Krishna, Ghataprabha, and Hiranyakeshi rivers.
Roshan mentioned that 26 boats have been kept on standby to meet any emergencies, and if required, more boats will be fetched from Karwar, he said. Initially, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the inflow into Ghataprabha River and its current water level near Sutagatti. Later, he visited Sankeshwar town and took details of the villages prone to flooding.
Tahsildar Manjula Nayak informed that the Hukkeri taluk administration has already prepared a list of relief centres, which were established during the severe flood in 2019. She said necessary arrangements have been made to tackle any flood situation. The Deputy Commissioner asked the officials to place caution boards to prevent people from crossing the submerged low-lying bridges.
Deputy Commissioner Roshan inspected the situation of Krishna River near Yadur village in Chikodi taluk by traveling in a boat. Later, he inspected the inflow into Krishna River near Manjari village. Meanwhile, he discussed steps to be taken for the rescue of humans and animals at the time of flood. He asked the officials to stay alert as incessant rainfall is continuing in neighboring Maharashtra.
