BC Baiyareddy, State President of Karnataka Provincial Farmers Association, strongly criticized the BJP government’s land acquisition policies, calling for the immediate resignation of Big Industries Minister MB Patil. Baiyareddy, addressing a gathering of farmers and various organizations at Devanahalli town, announced plans to convene a state-level meeting on July 22 during the assembly session. The farmers intend to march to the Chief Minister’s residence to protest against what they perceive as unjust land acquisitions.
Baiyareddy condemned Minister MB Patil’s disrespect towards farmers, demanding an end to land acquisition. He warned that the Green Army, supported by pro-Kannada groups and over 5,000 supporters, including women farmers, will stand with Channarayapatna farmers in their peaceful struggle, reported various farmers’ leaders present at the meeting.
The agitation stems from the fear that unchecked land acquisition over the next two decades will lead to a severe shortage of agricultural land, potentially causing starvation among the populace.
State Coordinator of Dalit Sangharsa Samithi Chukki Nanjudaswamy, Hasiru Sena Youth Unit State President Anjaneya Reddy, Channarayapatna Gram Panchayat President Maregowda, and leaders from the Channarayapatna Land Acquisition Struggle Committee also voiced their support for the protest.
