In a significant development for regional infrastructure, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the highly anticipated Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway before December this year.

The four-lane Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway (BCE), currently under construction, spans around 258 kilometres and crosses seven districts across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Gadkari highlighted that upon completion, commuters will be able to travel between Bengaluru and Chennai in just two hours, marking a substantial reduction in travel time and enhancing connectivity across southern India.

Speaking at the valedictory session of Karnataka BJP’s State executive in Bengaluru, Gadkari also addressed the city’s pressing traffic issues. He outlined plans to expedite the Satellite Township Ring Road (STRR) project, an Rs17 000-crore initiative aimed at easing congestion within Bengaluru. Recently inaugurated by PM Modi, the STRR project is expected to significantly improve urban mobility.

During discussions in Delhi with Karnataka’s leadership, Gadkari committed Rs 2 lakh crore for various road projects, stressing the need for prompt action on land acquisition and environmental clearances from the state government to ensure timely completion.

Gadkari reiterated his prompt responsiveness to state government communications, highlighting his efforts to address concerns promptly. These initiatives underscore a concerted effort to bolster infrastructure and foster better transportation networks in southern India.
