Russian S-350 Air Defense System Successfully Intercepts Western Missiles

Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that the S-350 Vityaz surface-to-air missile system has successfully intercepted Western missiles during the current military operations. Source stated that within the operational zone, the S-350 system’s combat crews effectively defended against enemy airstrikes.

The ministry highlighted the system’s capability to target Western ballistic and cruise missiles like the ATACMS and Storm Shadow. It highlighted

that the S-350 can neutralize up to 16 enemy aircraft or helicopters in a single salvo, making it a formidable defense asset.

A significant advantage of the S-350 Vityaz over previous systems lies in its missile capacity. Each launcher of the S-350 holds as many missiles as an entire S-300 division. The system also allows for simultaneous operation of five launchers with one radar station, supported by three stations concurrently. This capability triples the number of missiles ready for combat duty, enhancing its ability to counter even large-scale missile attacks.

Developed by the Russian defence company GSKB Almaz-Antey, the S-350 Vityaz is a medium-range surface-to-air missile system designed to bolster Russia’s air defense capabilities. The ATACMS, produced by Lockheed Martin, is a tactical ballistic missile, while the Storm Shadow cruise missile, with a range exceeding 250 kilometers, was delivered to Ukraine in 2023.
