India, Bangladesh Hold 7th Commissioner Level Joint Group Of Customs Meeting

The 7th Commissioner level Joint Group of Customs meeting between India and Bangladesh was held in Shillong on June 27-28. The purpose of the meeting was to foster cooperation, enhance efficiency, and advance shared goals in customs administration to strengthen collective efforts in customs enforcement, trade facilitation, and border security.

A four-member delegation from Bangladesh, led by Md Kamruzzaman, Commissioner, Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate, Jashore, participated in the meeting. The ten-member Indian delegation was led by the Commissioner of Customs Preventive Commissionerate, NER, Shillong.

Many pending issues at the ground level were resolved during the meeting, and other issues were highlighted for escalation to higher-level forums for resolution. Approved minutes were signed after reaching a consensus on key issues related to bilateral trade and customs procedures.

The head of the Bangladesh delegation expressed gratitude to the Indian Customs for organizing the meeting and making the discussions result-oriented. The meeting was seen as a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh, emphasizing a shared commitment to enhancing trade facilitation and cooperation.

Additionally, on June 22, the Indian Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, and the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in Military Education. The MoU was signed during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s state visit to India. This agreement will enhance professional acumen, share best practices, and facilitate various training and exchange programs.
