Former MP Pratap Simmha stated that those who criticise the BJP for attempting to change the Constitution should remember that it was the Congress party that amended it 75 times during its tenure as the ruling party at the Centre.
He was speaking at an interaction programme organised on the topic, Emergency, An Assault on the Constitution. Out of 106 amendments brought to the Indian Constitution, 75 were made under the Congress tenure. Of the 75 amendments, 58 were made when the nation had Prime Ministers from the Gandhi family. We need to tell this fact to the people who always criticize the BJP for making efforts to change the Constitution, Simha called upon BJP workers.
Coming down heavily on Congress, he said the very base of the Indian Constitution was shaken during the Congress regime in India. It is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has been ensuring the protection of the Constitution. The government under Modi developed five places as Panchteerth in honor of BR Ambedkar, he said.
MLA and State President of the BJP SC Morcha, Cement Manju, said that the hunger for power in Indira Gandhi led to the declaration of Emergency, which can be called a black day in the history of India. Thousands were sent to jail for opposing the emergency, and the family members were also forced to undergo pain, he said.
