Taipei

Taiwan is considering introducing visa-on-arrival for Indian citizens, a move that could greatly benefit Indian travelers. Tien Chung-kwang, Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, mentioned this during discussions in Taipei. He highlighted India’s high outbound travel and the advantages of simplifying visa procedures.

The proposal is being seriously considered, but any decision requires internal discussions with Taiwan’s Immigration Department. Tien Chung-kwang emphasized that such policy changes cannot be made by the government alone but must involve collaborative efforts.

Relations between Taiwan and India have been warming since the early 1990s when India launched its Look East Policy. This move towards closer ties included discussions on easing visa regulations.

This development follows Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister dismissing China’s objections to recent communications between Taiwan’s President Lai Ching Te and Indian Prime Minister Modi, after Modi’s reelection. The Chinese Embassy in India reiterated that Taiwan is an integral part of China’s territory.

Taiwan’s proactive approach aims to facilitate tourism and business travel from India, reflecting its stance on international relations.
