Fuel Price Hike Effect In The State, Motorists Flock To Goa Border

Must read

Karwar

Petrol and diesel prices have been increased in the state. But in Goa, which is nearer to Karwar, petrol is Rs 9 less per liter, so if the Goa border Polem petrol station is crowded, the customers for Karwar petrol stations are less. There are two petrol stations at Polem, Goa, just 15 km from Karwar. A liter of petrol there is only Rs 94, it is Rs 104.70 in the state.

Since it is less than Rs.9 per litre, they go to Goa and fill up their petrol tanks.   Goa is a paradise for alcoholics. Now along with alcohol consumption, petrol is also being filled in the car.

Diesel is also cheaper by around Rs 5 per liter in Goa compared to the state. People who have travelled to Goa or those who are in the border of Goa are getting diesel in their vehicles in Goa. 5 years ago petrol price in Goa was around Rs 15 per liter less than in Karnataka. Then the petrol stations of Karwar were panicking.

Later, due to increase in tax in Goa, it became less by Rs 5-6 than the state. Due to this, the number of people going to Goa to fill up petrol decreased and the crowd increased in the petrol stations of Karwar. Now again due to increase in petrol tax in Karnataka which has reduced by Rs 9 per litre, motorists are turning to Goa for petrol. There has been a lot of resentment against the state government for increasing the tax on petrol and diesel.
