Officials handed over the mortal remains of victims from the Kuwait fire incident on Saturday after they arrived in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, earlier in the day. Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue), Vineet Kumar Singh, provided details about the handover, stating, Two residents of Gorakhpur died in the Kuwait fire incident. Their mortal remains have arrived today. Their relatives are here, and the administration is supporting the families of the deceased.
The fire, which broke out at a labor accommodation in Mangaf, Kuwait, on June 12, claimed the lives of 45 Indians, including three from Uttar Pradesh. The victims from Gorakhpur were identified as Angad Gupta (48) and Jairam Gupta (38). Both had been working in Kuwait for nearly a decade and had recently returned to their jobs after spending a few months with their families.
Angad Gupta’s wife, Reeta Devi, shared that Angad had been in Kuwait for the last eight years, periodically visiting India. He worked in a mall and was the sole breadwinner for the family, which includes their two children, Anshika and another child.
In Chennai, the final rites of Sivashankar Govindhan, one of the seven people from Tamil Nadu killed in the Kuwait fire, were performed at Royapuram crematorium. Forty-eight-year-old Govindhan had been working as a truck driver in Kuwait for over a year. He is survived by his wife, Hema Kumari, and their children, Shanthika and Deepak Raj.
