Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) demolished unauthorised sheds in Shivaram Karanth Layout. A BDA official reported that layouts were being constructed and plots sold without approval from authorities. Following the order of the BDA Commissioner, the construction work of an unauthorised layout on about five acres in Kaval village was cleared. The official mentioned that legal action would be taken against those involved in constructing or selling unauthorised settlements. The BDA urged all builders to follow proper procedures and obtain necessary approvals to avoid such actions.
BBMP To Resume Property Tax Collection Drive
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will restart its property tax collection drive on Monday, June 10. Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath will meet with officials on Friday to discuss details and strategies for the effort. The BBMP had paused its property tax collection in April and May due to the Lok Sabha elections, resulting in very few payments during this period.
To encourage timely tax payments, the BBMP introduced a one-time settlement scheme in late February, offering concessions on penalties and interest on unpaid or reassessed taxes, available until July 31. Revenue officials, previously assigned to election duties, will now resume visits to tax defaulters. A BBMP official warned that properties of tax defaulters would be seized. Over 300,000 properties reportedly owe more than Rs 700 crore in taxes.
