Torrential rain caused overflowing ditches in the district on Thursday. While farmers are pleased with the rain, crossing the pits poses challenges. In Ramdurga taluk, parents crossed an overflowing stream in fear for their lives. Children from Lakshmi Nagar village attend Udachammanagar Government School, risking being washed away if the well overflows. Over 24 children from Lakshmi Nagar must cross the ditch daily to reach school.
Satyamma’s pit lies between Udachammanagar and Lakshmi Nagar, causing parents to struggle every monsoon. Villagers have long demanded a bridge over Satyamma ditch, but appeals to authorities have gone unanswered. In Udachammanagar village, a video of parents crossing the ditch with their children has gone viral. Villagers have now appealed to Minister Satish Jarakiholi and MLA Ashoka Pattana to construct a bridge for safe passage.
