Record Win For Alliance Candidate Sweeps South Teachers’ Constituency Election

JD(S)-BJP alliance candidate Vivekananda has won the Legislative Council election for South Teachers’ Constituency. He also holds the record of being the first candidate to win the first preference vote in the history of Council elections.
Alliance candidate Vivekananda got 10,823 votes while Congress candidate Marithibbe Gowda got 6,201 votes. Vivekananda won the first preference votes by a huge margin of 4,622 votes. Vatal Nagaraj got 84 votes and 1,049 votes were rejected.
South Teachers’ Constituency falls under Mysore, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts. Out of a total of 20,549 voters, 18,979 votes were cast.
In this election, there was direct competition between Vivekananda and Maritibbe Gowda.
