Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has alleged that the Valmiki Development Corporation scam was conducted with the knowledge of both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. Responding to media questions in Bangalore about Minister Nagendra’s resignation, Kumaraswamy mentioned that ₹80 to ₹85 crore had already been involved in the case. He criticized the delay in the resignation decision, asserting that the scam was not limited to one minister but involved the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister as well.
Kumaraswamy stated that he noted the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks on the resignation, which he termed as a drama. He suggested that the minister lacked the courage to resign due to the involvement of higher authorities in the scam. He accused the government of attempting to cover up the scam, which surfaced last March, attributing its exposure to media reports following an officer’s death.
Kumaraswamy called for a thorough investigation into the scam, emphasizing the need to uncover who facilitated the quick release of funds. He suggested that the money might have been used in the Telangana elections and questioned who managed the election there. He expressed confidence that an investigation would reveal the misuse of Valmiki Corporation funds.
Regarding the recent election results, Kumaraswamy stated that the JDS-BJP alliance’s victory in the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency reflected the people’s verdict, denying any trickery in the elections.
Addressing the issue of a Union minister position, Kumaraswamy prioritized solving national problems over ministerial ambitions, pledging to collaborate with all state MPs on irrigation issues. He also mentioned that discussions with CP Yogeshwar about the upcoming Channapatna assembly constituency by-election would occur in due course, as six months remain before the election.
