BBMP Takes Center Stage As Bengaluru Gears Up For Local Body Elections

Must read

With Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar urging party workers to prepare for local body elections post the Lok Sabha results, aspirants vying for corporator positions are rallying their supporters to intensify civic efforts in their respective wards.

Former mayor Manjunath Reddy voiced confidence, stating, “We had already approached the court against the previous BJP government for delaying BBMP polls. Now that Congress has come to power, local body polls and better civic administration will be prioritized.”

Congress leader Abhilash Reddy echoed this sentiment, urging workers to engage with residents to identify priorities. He criticized the BJP’s tenure, highlighting the unscientific delimitation of wards, now rectified by Congress.

Shobha Gowda, representing Vasanthapura ward, highlighted the absence of corporators since September 2020. Basic civic needs are now addressed through collaboration with Bengaluru Rural MP, DK Suresh. However, she noted the continued reliance on leaders due to limited access to engineers.

In contrast, former mayor and BJP leader Katte Sathyanarayana, along with BBMP’s former town planning chairman AH Basavaraju, expressed skepticism regarding the government’s commitment to prompt elections, suggesting potential delays post the June 4 LS poll outcome.

As political anticipation builds, the BBMP takes center stage in Bengaluru’s preparations for local body elections, amidst varied perspectives and expectations from different political stakeholders.
