Even as the police have continued the hunt for those involved in the Saturday’s violence in Old Hubli, religious heads from different communities have made a joint appeal for peace.

Addressing media persons, religious heads Syed Ahmed Raza Sar Khaji, Hashmi Sutari Khadri, Shivanand Paramahamsa Swami of Bailhongal, Sye Nissar Ahmed Khadri, Mohammed Ansal Mukhti Khadri, Hafeez Alimuddin Razvi, Chandrashekhar Shivayogi Swami of Hosa Mutt and Channabasavanand Swami of Bengaluru appealed to the people not to pay heed to rumours and appealed for peace.

They said that Dharwad district had always been known for communal harmony where Hindus and Muslims lived together.

They said there was no restriction on anyone in following their religion and appealed to the public to ensure that Hubli remained peaceful. They demanded that all those who were involved in the violence irrespective of their religion should be arrested and action taken as per law.

All the religious heads subsequently sang ‘sare jahan se achha’ holding hands.

Meanwhile, seer of Moorusvir Mutt, Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami has appealed for peace. Speaking after enquiring the health of inspector NC Kadadevaramath, who was injured in the violence, the seer said that both Hindus and Muslims should live harmoniously.

Meanwhile, the application filed on behalf of Abhishek Hiremath, the student who has been accused of uploading provocative video, seeking interim relief, has been rejected.

However the court has directed the police to escort him to the examination centre for writing the II PU examination.
