Ahmedabad Cricket Betting Case: CID, IT Recover More Than Rs 18 Crore In Cash

In a collaborative effort between the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and income-tax officials, a crackdown on a cricket betting case in Ahmedabad led to the discovery of over Rs 18 crore in cash, one kilogram of gold, and approximately Rs 64 lakh in foreign currency across 11 locations. Mukesh Patel, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for CID Crime in the Ahmedabad zone, disclosed that the raid occurred on May 8.

Explaining the background, Patel stated, A previous cricket betting case was under investigation at the CID crime station in the Ahmedabad zone police. During the probe, connections to online gaming applications were identified, revealing dummy accounts. Subsequent analysis revealed multiple gambling entities operating in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

He elaborated on the raid, On Friday, simultaneous operations were conducted at 11 different sites, with the participation of income tax officers, police inspectors, and the use of body-worn cameras. Patel highlighted the significant findings, stating, The raids yielded a total of Rs 18.55 crore in cash, 1 kilogram of gold, and approximately Rs 64 lakh in foreign currency from various locations.

Patel emphasized the procedural adherence, mentioning, The entire raid process, including the use of body-worn cameras, was conducted in collaboration with income tax officials. Cash recovered has been reported to the income tax department, while electronic devices seized have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis. Despite these discoveries, no arrests have been made thus far, Patel confirmed.
