Anurag Thakur, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, questioned why Muslims might feel insecure when their population has reportedly grown by 45 percent and they have received government assistance just like others, he said based report on India’s changing population.
The report, released by the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, highlighted that while the Hindu population decreased by 7.82 percent from 1950 to 2015, the Muslim population increased by 43.15 percent, suggesting a supportive environment for diversity. Thakur emphasized that minorities are thriving and need not worry.
Thakur dismissed opposition claims that the BJP would alter the Constitution, affirming the party’s commitment to maintaining reservation for disadvantaged groups. He accused the opposition of attempting to divert reserved quotas from SCs, STs, and OBCs to Muslims.
Thakur pointed out that while the Muslim population in India has significantly increased, Hindu populations have dwindled in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. He emphasized the government’s efforts to uplift all communities and criticized fearmongering by the opposition.
Thakur reiterated BJP’s focus on inclusive development, highlighting initiatives like housing, sanitation, healthcare, and financial assistance, especially targeting marginalized communities. He criticized the opposition for spreading misinformation and creating fear among SCs/STs/OBCs for political gain, contrasting BJP’s approach of holistic development against Congress’s appeasement politics.
