Mumbai

A 30-year-old Mumbai police constable, Vishal Pawar, died after a gang of robbers and drug addicts allegedly injected him with poison while he was chasing a thief to recover his stolen phone. The incident occurred on April 28 when Pawar, in plain clothes, was traveling on a suburban train. As the train slowed between Sion and Matunga stations, someone struck Pawar’s hand, causing his phone to fall on the tracks. When he jumped off to retrieve it, he was surrounded by a gang. During the scuffle, they injected him with a poisonous substance and poured red liquid into his mouth, leaving him unconscious.

He regained consciousness the next day and returned home, but his condition worsened, leading to his hospitalization in Thane, where he died on May 1. The police have registered a case against unidentified suspects and transferred it to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Dadar. The GRP is investigating the case and has formed several teams to catch the culprits.
